Job Summary: 

The Scientist I, Research is responsible for development of new oncolytic virus candidates and independently performing routine analytical and molecular testing on new viruses. Scientist I also provides support for development and optimization of novel methods for virus testing, and for other projects when required.  Additional responsibilities include virus batch production and shipment to external collaborators and/or CRO, and contribution to day-to-day activities of the Research Department.

 

This position is based in our Milton Park location and typically has a 5-day on-site expectation. 

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Play significant role in the construction of novel oncolytic virus candidates with minimal guidance and high degree of independence using established methods.
  • Performing initial testing (PCR, ELISA, cell-based analytical assays etc.) on new virus candidates independently.
  • Support development of novel methods for virus testing
  • Executing non-GMP virus batch production independently.
  • Perform in-house testing (Mycoplasma, Sterility, PCR, ELISA, cell-based analytical tests etc) for other departments when required
  • Involved in the daily operations of the Research Department
  • Actively participates in method troubleshooting and data analysis
  • Supports upkeeping of the Research laboratory by preparing of reagents, virus stocks, and controls for use in routine testing and development projects
  • Contributes to general laboratory housekeeping tasks, including maintenance of laboratory equipment
  • Operates in accordance with company procedures and health and safety practices

Other responsibilities

  • Drafts and reviews Research reports and standard operating procedures 
  • Other duties, as assigned
  • Performs lab books review and data verification for data reporting
  • Training team members in equipment usage and maintenance

Qualifications

Educational requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant biological science is required; MSc preferred

Experience and skill requirement:

  • 4-5+ years industry experience
  • A self-motivated individual, with good time management and able to work in an organised manner
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a small team, with effective communication and an ability to work flexibly to meet varying workloads
  • Ability to interface effectively with management and other groups or project teams
  • Experience in any of cell culture, ELISA, PCR, Immunoblotting
  • Good IT skills in core applications e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and experience in statistical analysis
